King Arthur is a tale that just about everyone knows. Ask Joe Sixpack on the street and he would be able to tell you the basics: peasant boy pulls sword from the stone and becomes king with wizard Merlin by his side, eventually Arthur's most trusted knight Lancelot sleeps with his wife Guinevere, and eventually they seek the Holy Grail in an attempt to heal . Lancelot is the protagonist of Book III and the greatest knight in the company of the Round Table. He is Arthur’s best friend and a powerful foil for the king since he is complex and full of contradictions. Lancelot is also Arthur’s opposite in that, while he is always able to take swift and decisive action, he is rarely able to use this.

The book is quite long and tries to cover everything there is, and while I liked many things (Gawain and Lancelot as characters, most of their scenes, Galahad, Lancelot's madness) and I will talk about them at the end of the review, there were some particular points that I had issues with: A) this is the arthurian book with the most mention/5. At the end of Arthurian prose cycles, including in the seminal Le Morte d'Arthur, the Round Table breaks down into warring factions following the revelation of Queen Guinevere 's adultery with Lancelot. In the same tradition, Queen Guinevere, earlier, has her own order of young warriors serving her personally, known as the Queen's Knights.

"You know Arthur?" Lancelot asked as she headed for the door. Merlynn looked back and winked at him as she left. "Oh yes.""Grummund's the third to fail this month." Arthur complained, putting his sword onto the pile quickly growing in Merlynn's arms. He was talking about the man who had just failed the final test. Discover the best Lancelot books and audiobooks. Along with "King Arthur and the Round Table," are Talbott's preceding books The Sword in the Stone and Excalibur, though here he draws focus away from King Arthur and in order to concentrate on his most famous knight: Sir Lancelot.

There is a huge amount of material that makes up the saga of Lancelot's life, and naturally Talbott can only mine a fraction of it, /5(6).

Lancelot and Arthur fighting their feeling for each other and Lancelot’s feelings for Else. This was an odd mix of legend, the supernatural, and Lancelot and Arthur’s love for each other.

Thomas Berger: Arthur Rex is a tragicomic retelling of the Arthurian legend. Marion Zimmer Bradley: The Mists of Avalon is the classic of modern reinterpretations of the Arthurian legend through the points of view of powerful women behind Camelot, namely.

“Arthur would fight for Britain. I would fight for Arthur. And Guinevere would always own my soul. The gods are cruel.” This line alone summed up precisely how complicated Lancelot’s feelings are in between choosing loyalty for Arthur or love for Guinevere.
